In Florida, John and I could always count on at least one head-twisting, eye-rolling event every day. Back in Indiana, I realized I wasn’t tune in to finding “whaaaa” moments around here. However, since John has been “driving Miss Daisy” here, I’ve discovered some jaw-droppers here too, without much effort.
The first show-stopper for us was observed before we reached the house. On the drive up I-65 we spotted a sign for a “corn-holing association”. “Whaaaa, organized corn-holing”?? Growing up in the Midwest, cornholing was never so boldly advertized and I’m betting there was no formal organization!! But, hey, it’s a new century; what do I know?? As soon as I could reach a computer, I googled this and found that corn-holing is actually bean-bag toss, and it is organized. Who knew??? Still, what’s wrong with just calling it Bean-bag Toss???
Shortly after our arrival, I was out driving around and taking note of all the changes around town: new buildings, closed businesses, detours (grrr). Like everywhere, just about every car has some sort of decal noting their family composition, pets, hobbies, etc. In Florida, a lot of cars have dive flags or Salt Life decals on their rear windows. But, imagine my surprise when I saw a “blow me” decal on a vehicle? “Whaaaa”????? Could it be that the friendly Midwestern town I thought I knew so well had grown callous since I moved away? Taking a squinty second look, I saw that it was a decal for wind turbines. How cool is that?? Indiana has “gone green” with wind turbines operating in several surrounding rural counties as well as in the city. The local bus company erected three wind turbines in July 2011 to power its maintenance and administration buildings. So, kudos to Indiana on this one. And “here here” to the blow me decal!! I may have to get one.
For some, decorating their vehicle has gone over the top with the decals, magnets, bumper stickers, truck nuts , (did I leave anything out?). On a recent ride around town, we spotted this vehicle which had so many decals, I’m not sure how well the driver could see using his mirrors. Anyway, I was curious what statement this guy was making…W.V.P.S.?? Back on google snoop, I discovered that this guy does paranormal investigations, right here in Lafayette. If you check out the site, http://www.wvps.zoomshare.com/ , you’ll find a lot of pictures of ghosts, which are outlined in black for the untrained eye. Mine are apparently very untrained since even with the outline to help, I don’t see anything. But, apparently the dead are enjoying an afterlife hanging around in Lafayette!! Does anyone see ghosts underwater???
** Update: I saw this vehicle in a parking lot since posting. His right rear tire was flat!! I guess his vibes for sensing ghosts are far more enhanced than his vibe for sensing a flat (like totally flat) tire!! lololol
